FAQs – Frequently Asked Questions

FAQsBelow are some frequently asked questions we have received over the years, if you can’t find what you are looking for, contact us and we will be happy to solve your questions.

Q: How much does a website cost?

A: It really depends on what you want in your website, for example, how many pages and what features. There are varying factors that determine how much your website will cost, not forgetting your domain registration and hosting.

Q: How long does it take to build a website?

A: The process can take anything from a few days up to a few months, if it’s a simple website with only content and images, the website can be finished in a few days providing the customer has supplied the web developer with all necessary content and website details.

Q: How do I get my website onto Search Engines, such as Google?

A: The process of getting your website indexed on Google is not necessarily as easy as it sounds, if your company has a unique product or service it can be easier to get a good ranking on Google, because there’s not as many competitors. If your company is based on a much more everyday product or service, there’s more competition and we have to work harder to get your website ranking well on Google.

MicroEd offer a number of SEO solutions to help make sure your website is Search Engine Friendly. SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) is a process of making your website more visible to search engines such as Google, Bing and Yahoo. These search engines crawl the website checking the quality of your content to make sure that your website is relevant and traffic friendly, traffic being the visitors of your website.

Q: How do I prepare for a website?

A: There are a number of things you will need to bring together before approaching a web developer. A website is made up of numerous pages, at a basic level there is the homepage, about us, and a contact us page. If you are unsure of what pages you will need you can always ask.

You should think over a domain name to have, keep in mind the domain name you prefer may not be available. Its always good to look them up to see if they are taken. If you want a ‘.au’ you will need to provide the web developer with an ABN.

Another thing to keep in mind is any special features or functions such as a blog, forum, shopping cart or animations. If you would like emails on your domain, you will need to supply the web developer with each email you would like (info@domain.com.au or admin@domain.com.au etc) and a password associated with each email. Keep in mind you can have emails redirected to another email account saving you having multiple email accounts.

Q: What website deals do you have?

A: We have a few website packages offering bundles of website features at a generous price, not to mention FREE Domain Registration and Hosting for the first term.

Q: What do I need in my website?

A: Its all a matter of preference, how much you want to advertise about your business and product, of course you will need content for each page along with images and contact details.

The website consists of 3 parts, a header (usually a logo and website navigation), a body (content and images) and a footer (usually navigation and a copyright stamp), all this is generally built and designed by the web designer so there’s not really any need to worry about it. All you need is to supply is the content and any other important information.

Q: Can I edit my website myself?

A: Yes, there are a few options when it comes to editing your website and its content. We generally build our websites using a CMS (Content Management System) that allows you to edit the website. But alternatively we can also build websites to work with a program called Adobe Contribute.

Q: How much are website updates?

A: Website updates are charged at $95 an hour, if your only updating a few images and some wording, it generally doesn’t take any longer than 10-20min.

Q: What is the difference between a ‘Static’ and ‘Dynamic’ Website?

A: ‘Static’ websites incorporate only HTML and CSS code, usually your basic website that only has content and images.

A ‘Dynamic’ website is a more known website, with endless possibilities, it can be incorporated with a mixture of HTML, CSS, PHP, JAVASCRIPT, XML and also be functional with a database, shopping cart, forum, chat room, online games, content management systems and much more.

Q: What is the difference between a ‘Desktop’ and ‘Mobile Friendly’ or ‘Responsive’ Website?

A: Desktop Computer websites are designed for large screen resolutions, and large monitors. Sometimes when you display a website on Smart Phones or Tablet Computer, it can be hard to navigate and read.

Mobile Friendly or Responsive websites exist because portable devices are now so popular. These websites adapt or display with a touch friendly design, with easy to read text. A mobile website can be created beside an existing site. You can sometimes enable a switch between Mobile and Desktop view. Responsive Design is a website that automatically adapts to smaller screen resolutions using the same website code.

Q: Are there any ongoing fees?

A: The only ongoing fees are for the hosting which is a yearly payment, domain name registration which is generally a payment every 2 years, and of course any website updates.

Q: My business doesn’t have a logo, can you design one?

A: Yes we can, our web designer can be helpful with designing not only your website, but also business cards, logos, email signatures, brochures and more.

Q: What if I don’t like the look of my website?

A: To make sure you get the right design to portray your company our web designer will come up with 3 different designs for you to review, you can make suggestions, select parts of the designs to make a new design, pick a design altogether or if you see nothing that interests you, ask for another 3 designs.
